You're So Dramatic

Being Filipino makes us very moral persons, and indeed, whether or not we would like to admit it, we make a lot of our decisions based on our values alone, without really considering other factors.
Admirable, isn't it, that we are able to look past countless possibilities just to uphold the very chaste image of our country. Instead of recognizing the chance to feed a few more families, what with the added job demand that will be brought about by a new aspect in medical tourism, we tend to focus on how our country will look like, being a center for sex change.
Then again, doesn't being in a democracy give us a freedom of choice as long as we are abiding the law? Then isn't setting up legislation to ban a person's right to his/her sexual preference illegal in itself?
Yes, maybe we shouldn't be so proud of being "sex change central", and yes, maybe we should not advertise it as one of the finer points of our society, but isn't it a bit over the top to actually ban sex change, and to propose to arrest any doctor who would perform such medical procedures?
Being in a patriarchal society, it is understood why so many people frown upon anything that undermines the power of the male specimen, such as femininity, or in this case, a choice to give up being a man. But being in a country where wars have been fought just to maintain what liberty we are experiencing right now, isn't it a huge slap on the face of those people who have fought hard for our freedom to simply restrict our people's right to choose their gender?
Homosexuals have so often been coined to be very emotional, but imposing laws to ban sex change from our country for the sake of a so-called morality that for some reason has been left by the times, isn't that so dramatic?
