The University of the Philippines will always place a premium on truth and justice in society. The UP Architecture Student Council (ASC) fully recognizes this role and at the same time strives to uphold it, along with the University’s mantra of academic freedom and excellence.
Although the current predicament calls for action, with the proposed full- day boycott of classes on July 10, the ASC openly disapproves the proposal. With utmost regard to the idea, it is but inappropriate, ineffective, and unproductive to express one’s dissatisfaction through boycotting and/or walking out of classes. We lament that, this time, even classes have to be sacrificed and put into line. There is nothing wrong with voicing out complaints and registering opposition, for as long as we do not contradict with our raison d'etre for being in the University. Being a scholar of the nation necessarily demands from us the responsibility of being scholar for the nation as well. After all, we are here in the University to study, hone our skills and talents, and to make full-use of the money paid, upshot of the blood and sweat of our Filipino taxpayers.
There are more productive ways to express and show protest. Our duties as scholars for the people should not just be limited to noble and pretentious acts.
Study well and use the knowledge you’ll gather to help our fellow Filipinos. If you feel that you are called to do more, for our nation, then pick yourself up and do it. There is nothing more fulfilling, than knowing that the taxes our parents, our neighbors, our countrymen are spending for us are being paid forward.
Be PRODUCTIVE.
ISKOLAR ng BAYAN, MAG-ARAL para sa BAYAN!
In service of the students,
The ASC (Architecture Student Council)
